Role of Online Education During the Current Health Situation

While businesses in the US were shutting down during the spread of Covid-19, schools didn’t have a choice but to close and stop operations as well.

In the first quarter of 2020, private and public schools started closing down, affecting around 55.1 million students in approximately 124,000 educational institutions throughout America.

As a result, the US educational system has dramatically changed like other countries across the globe. Then, online learning has begun to rise.

Schools are switching to electronic teaching and this may lead to what is known as the social classroom. Even before the pandemic, there was high adoption and development in educational technology. In 2019 alone, the global edtech investments were $18.66 billion. And it is projected to increase up to $350 billion by 2025 because of the pandemic.

Since the pandemic, even adults may have developed an interest in online education and distance learning. Multiple educational platforms could be found online that provide certification for specific job titles like salesforce admin certification. These endorsements can directly boost career stature and help improve practical skills.

What is Online Learning and What are its Benefits

As the name implies, this type of education takes place online. It is commonly known as e-learning. Before the Covid-19, e-learning is already a trend. In fact, I knew some of my neighbors’ children have been into online learning for years now. In fact, because online education is popular right now, most students are enrolling their children in it. In addition, to increase enrollment for new courses, institutions or private tutors frequently tend to send SMS for new enrollment, broadcasting their enticing price ranges via text messages.

But still, I always wonder what makes them decide to enroll their children to electronic education. I asked some of them, and here’s what I found.

Safer

In 2020, while medical experts were developing vaccines for Covid-19, it’s unsafe for children to study in school even if social distancing and other protocols were implemented.

Online learning is safer. Students do not have to go out of their homes. With laptops, personal computers, and even smartphones, they can study without any threat of a pandemic.

More Convenient

Before, students woke up early to come to school. That’s exhausting. With online learning, kids and adults can study at a time that is most convenient to them. Online educational solutions like those available at Agora.io, can make the process much efficient. Features like Real-Time Messaging that help in the instantaneous transmission of text, audio, or video communications are very beneficial and convenient in online education.

Learn Technical Skills

Aside from the course, students will also acquire new technical skills. They will be familiar with software like Skype, Slack, Zoom, and Dropbox. They will also know how to troubleshoot technical issues.

Not only do they become proficient with any subject matter, but also they can be well-versed in e-learning technology.

Challenges of Online Education

Like traditional education, online learning leads to multiple challenges. Here are some of them.

Distractions

In a classroom setting, distractions are a main concern of teachers.

Home-based learning is no exception.

Since learners have a lot of time to submit any paperwork, they end up browsing Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and other popular social media platforms.

As a result, the submissions of outputs tend to be late.

While adults can easily manage their time, it would be hard for children to do that themselves. For parents, it is crucial to establish a routine they should stick to no matter what. Also, you have to be firm and consistent.

You can let them take a break, of course. You can allow them to watch videos on streaming platforms. But during virtual instruction, they should be focused. Their studies should be their top priority.

Lack of Motivation

It can be difficult to stay motivated when attending online classes or even getting the outputs done.

This is where a proper mindset can play a significant role.

Let’s say you have tried to change your mindset, but nothing worked.

That’s disappointing and embarrassing at the same time.

Perhaps, you are quite overwhelmed with how to adjust to e-learning. Don’t worry as you are not alone. While there many things that run in your mind, find a space in your home. Then, convert it into a classroom. It helps.

Tips for Successful Online Learning
